ITINERARIO
Pre-Departure Briefing - Cusco
A day before the tour, we will have a briefing meeting headed by our tour guide. This talk is given to all travelers for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. It is important to attend the briefing because, at this moment, you will learn about each moment of the trip in detail. Moreover, remember that if you have any doubts before the trip this is the perfect moment to ask. At the end, you will receive the final advice before the departure, such as what to wear during the trip, how the climate in the sites you will visit, and more!
DAY 01 - Crossing the Tropical Forest to Aguas Calientes. Cusco - Santa Teresa - Hidroeléctrica - Aguas Calientes
We will pick you up at your accommodation at 7:30 am. Our team and your guide will be ready to start the trip by boarding the minibus that will take us to Hidroelectrica. Once on the way, we will make a stop in Santa Teresa village to have lunch at 1:30 pm or around.
Furthermore, we will continue our car journey until we arrive at Hidroeléctrica around 3:00 pm. From here, you can see the route that we are going to take to reach the Machu Picchu village, which is also known as Aguas Calientes.
We have two options to sort the last part of the trip: we can walk along the railroad (it takes about two hours and a half of walking through the jungle) The other option is to take a train to Aguas Calientes (Inca Rail or Peru Rail in Expedition class) , this will make a journey of 30 minutes.
Finally, we will arrive at the town and we will walk a few minutes to our hotel. Here, we will have time to settle, and then we will go to have dinner and talk with our guide for the next morning. You will then have free time to explore, we recommend visiting the local Hot Springs and enjoying a relaxing thermal bath at night (it costs S/. 10.00)
DAY 02 - Guided Visit to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary. Aguas Calientes- Machu Picchu - Cusco
This is the peak of our journey! On this day, we will wake up very early to have breakfast. Then, we will have to walk for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, this option implies having good physical condition. If you prefer, you can take a 30-minute ride by bus to the entrance as well. Following this magical moment, we will start the guided tour around the citadel for about two hours. Our tour guide is in charge of explaining all about the history, and importance of the site and answering all your questions about it. After the tour, you will have free time to walk and explore at your own pace as well.
If you want to visit Huayna Picchu Mountain, you need to get another ticket at the entrance of the site and climb for 1 and a half hours. Finally, our visit will end and we will return to Aguas Calientes; you can choose between taking the bus or walking.
Our guide will give us some indications about the town, and you can choose to either return to Hidroeléctrica by foot or take another train. In Hidroeléctrica, you will recognize our minibus, which will be waiting for us in Hidroeléctrica to take us back to Cusco. After the 6-hour ride, we will be in Cusco City Center at 10:00 pm.

- Consider the season and time of your tour: Take into consideration that Cusco has two main seasons throughout the year. First, the dry season goes from May to October. On the other hand, the rainy season goes from November to March. The best seasons of the year to visit Machu Picchu are the shoulder seasons, which is April and October. We recommend dressing in layering clothes and taking rain gear, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat.
- Pack smartly: Bring just what you will need, but prepare for sunny days as well as occasional rain. We recommend bringing layered clothes, trekking gear, toiletries, and personal items only. Don’t forget to get some cash for tickets, and snacks along the way.
- Respect for locals and the environment: In Machu Picchu, you will find a lot of culture and traditions to date, and you can learn a lot from locals. Also, you may see many representative birds, plants, and tree biodiversity.

How to reach Machu Picchu?
The most popular option is to get to Machu Picchu by train. For this, you will need to take a car from Cusco to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Furthermore, you will need to get your rain ticket in advance and take a ride to Aguas Calientes town, you will reach it in 2 hours. This is the fastest, but expensive way to do it.
On the other hand, you can take this tour and have an alternative journey to reach Machu Picchu by car, getting the chance to know the highland forest by hiking as well.
Finally, you also have the chance to get to Machu Picchu by trekking the Inca Trail. This is a 2 to 4-day walking route through the High Andes of Cusco to the subtropical forest that will get you to the Intipuku, a unique sight of the citadel.
What is the availability of the tour?
Our Machu Picchu by Car Tour is available all year. However, you must consider choosing the right season for your visit depending on your itinerary and travel preferences. Moreover, the weather in Machu Picchu is warm and comfortable all year, but rainy at the start of the year.
What tickets do you need to enter the sites?
Our tour includes the general entrance to Machu Picchu and all car transportation from and to Cusco. Nevertheless, you can also get extra train tickets, and entrance tickets to climb Huayna Picchu, which are not included here.
