Rainbow Mountain in ATVs
Cusco is a very popular destination worlwide, and not only for its historical value but for the great number of activities it offers. This region is considered one of the best places for adventure sports, such as trekking, hiking, riding and more.
What can be better than visiting the Rainbow Mountain? The answer is very simple, going on an ATVs Tour! There is no better way to get the most of the landscape than by driving at your own pace. Going on an ATV at more than 5000 m. is also an activity full of adrenaline.

ITINERARIO
Pre - Departure Briefing - Cusco
On the day before our Rainbow Mountain ATV Tour, we will have a briefing headed by our tour guide. This talk is given to all travelers for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. It is important to attend the briefing because, at this moment, you will learn about each moment of the trip in detail. Moreover, remember that if you have any doubts before the trip this is the perfect moment to ask. At the end, you will receive the final advice before the departure, such as what to wear during the trip, how the climate in the sites you will visit, and more!
DAY 01 - Cusco – Japura – Rainbow Mountain - Japura - Cusco
Our awesome Rainbow Mountain in ATVs starts picking you up in your hotel in Cusco at 3:30 am approximately. Moreover, we will take our private tourist car to reach Japura, which is a town located 4200 meters above sea level.
We will arrive there at around 6:20 am, and a delicious breakfast will be awaiting us. After breakfast, our tour guide will give the instructions to start our adventure in the ATVs. The first route is traveling to Qosqopata (4900 meters above sea level) for an average time of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Later, we will walk 1.5 km in about 35 minutes, this is the distance to get to the impressive Rainbow Mountain viewpoint at 5038 meters above sea level. Once in the top, we will have time to enjoy the magnificent landscape, and take the best pictures because we will be the first to reach it, being this the perfect time to enjoy it without crowds.
After our visit, we will walk back to the place where we left the ATVs and will drive on them to return to Japura to have a heartwarming lunch. We will return to Cusco in the afternoon, arriving at an around 3:30 p.m., we will drop you off in plaza Regocijo, located right in Cusco Center.

- Consider the season and time of your travel: Cusco has two main seasons throughout the year. In the first place, the dry season goes from May to October and it is characterized by its popularity and absence of rain, this is the high season. On the other hand, the low season goes from November to March and it is characterized by its rainy days. You can visit Rainbow Mountain any time of the year. Nevertheless, during the rainy season, you may find it covered by snow. The best time to appreciate its colors would be from April to October.
- Take basic precautions on altitude sickness: This is a little demanding tour, because of the altitude. However, you will stand it better because you won’t walk too much. Remember that Cusco is above 3000 m. and the Rainbow Mountain is above 5000 m. so don’t miss out on adequate acclimatization before you start your adventures outside the city. We recommend also drinking coca leaf tea, and hot water during the tour.
- Pack smartly: Bring just what you will need, but prepare for the season of your visit. The Rainbow Mountain has an Andes cold weather. We recommend bringing layering clothes, a jacket, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, a hat, toiletries, and personal items. Don’t forget to get some cash for tickets, and to buy snacks along the way.
