What to expect
Trekking to Santa Rosa Baja
We start the day picking you up from your respective accommodation from 3:30 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. Approx. After leaving Cusco, we will go to the town of Cachora (Approximately 3 hours and half) there will be a short stop of 30 to 45 minutes for breakfast. Once the breakfast time is over, we will continue to Capulioc, where we will start the trek being the first section until Chikiska area (1950 m.a.s.l). After lunch we will descend to Playa Rosalinas and then continue the hike up for approximately 2 hours for our first Santa Rosa Baja camping site. This day we will walk approximately between 5 to 6 hours. Optional: (1 night in Choquequirao Sanctuary Lodge)
Leaving early this morning, we ascend to Maranpata where we will have lunch. The climb takes approximately 2 hours and is hard level. From our lunch spot we can see the remains of Choquequirao.Then we have 2 hours more of walk to reach Choquequirao and its surroundings, this will be a guided tour, including the recently discovered areas where the government through the Institute of Culture INC continues working. We will spend the night there and will be able to see the sunset and some condors flying by.
Trekking to Maizal
After finishing the archaeological sites, we will walk a short climb to the pass. Then it descends 1400 m (4600 ft) beyond the recently discovered Pincha Unuyoc ruins to the Blanco River, where you can dip your feet in the cold waters. Here we will appreciate biting sand flies. Known as "Pumahuacachi", its name means "makes the puma cry". Here, we´ll have lunch and then we will climb again abruptly, 1,200 m (3900 ft) to the small and beautiful Maizal campground (altitude of 3,000 m (9840 ft). This is probably the hardest day of the trip, but if you are prepared well enough and determined, you will succeed. The camping time and dinner.
Trekking to Santa Teresa
Leaving the camp we will pass through the old silver mines to the highest top of the trip. Abra San Juan at 4,000 m (13,123 ft) which offers spectacular views of the Cordillera Vilcabamba mountain range. We will arrive to the charming Andean village of Yanama. Here we will have our lunch and say goodbye to our muleteers and our transport waits for the journey along the dirt road that crosses the Totora Pass, a small village of Lucmabamba and finally Santa Teresa. 4 hours and half by bus. We can go for a swim and enjoy the cocalmayo hotspring (optional).
Trekking to Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, we will take a half hour bus trip to Hydroelectrica. OPTIONAL: If you want to do Zipline in Santa Teresa you can do it in approximately 2 and transport to hydroelectric, here lunch. After passing this small Inca site, we will reach the train tracks.
Next to the rails there is a good way to walk, This road will take us to Aguas Calientes. After 3 hours of walking we will arrive at Aguas Calientes, which is located at the foot of Machu Picchu. This section is very interesting because this trail was used by the American professor Hiram Bingham who rediscovered Machu Picchu after centuries of being lost.
Visit MACHU PICCHU "Wonder of the world"
The most awaited day has arrived! We will walk towards Machu Picchu or we will take the first bus to Machu Picchu (optional), just in time for the sunrise. It will take you 1 hour to reach the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, one of the 7 New Wonders of the World and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO: an unforgettable experience that you will never forget.Your guide will guide you through experts through the amazing vestiges and its main streets. After the guided tour, you will have free time to walk through the squares of the city and perform some of the following activities on your own: At the end of the tour you have the choice to go up to the additional mountains such as: Machu Picchu Mountain or Huaynapicchu (as long as you have reserved tickets in advance) In the afternoon, you will have to return to the town of Aguas Calientes to collect your belongings from the lodge and take your train back to Ollantaytambo 18:20 where we will be waiting for our transportation back to Cusco at approximately 22:00 hrs.
